DIY Halloween Ice Cream Recipe

September 17, 2013

Halloween ice creamNothings better than seasonal ice cream, especially in the fall. Can’t you just taste the sweet, crisp, apple pie ice cream already? There’s only one problem: No matter how tasty seasonal ice cream is, you can’t help but wish there was something that looked different about it. Well, now you can really spice it up: Check out this adorable DIY fall, or Halloween, ice cream recipe!

The reason we say fall or Halloween is you can decorate this treat to your liking. Make it festive with fall colors or ordain it with creepy, haunted features for Halloween — the choice is yours.

What is it? It’s a ball of ice cream, literally. A scoop of your seasonal ice cream hugged tightly by an outer crust of chocolate… yum. All decorated perfectly, by you, for your next fall festive party. Keep reading to learn how to make these adorable ice cream wonder balls.

Get to Work – The best part about this recipe is its simplicity. All you need is a carton of your favorite seasonal ice cream, which you can get at Praline’s by the way, some gingersnap cookies, shortening, and chocolate to melt, preferably chocolate chips. Grab a cookie sheet and place a single layer of wax paper on top. Then, take your gingersnap cookies and place them on the wax paper. Using a spoon or an ice cream scoop, plop a small scoop of your seasonal ice cream onto the cookies. Don’t make the scoops too big, as you want them to stay put. Place in the freezer until the ice cream is firm. Combine and melt the chocolate and shortening into a small microwave bowl. For every 6 ounces of chocolate chips, use 1 teaspoon of shortening. Melt in a microwave and mix until smooth. Take your frozen dessert out of the freezer and dip each into the melted chocolate. Make sure chocolate covers the ice cream completely and then return immediately to the freezer. Don’t remove from the freezer until you’re ready to serve!

See! Adorable, fun, and easy, what else could you want from a seasonal ice cream recipe? Remember to decorate the tops while the chocolate is still soft; that way, sprinkles and other decorations will stick. We recommend apply icing after the chocolate has hardened. Good luck and enjoy!
