We like it when ice cream and fictional 1970’s TV news anchors can come together.
Ben and Jerry recently unveiled their latest their latest ice cream flavor. It’s a tip of the cap to Ron Burgundy’s love of scotch. The fictional character of Burgundy (played by Will Ferrell) was first introduced to America in the 2004 comedy hit “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy”. The character has a taste for many things including rich mahogany, leather-bound books and the occasional glass of scotch.
Despite the name, “Scotchy Scotch Scotch” does not contain any alcohol. The “scotch” in this ice cream refers to butterscotch. It is butterscotch ice cream with butterscotch swirls. Is this new flavor compelling and rich? Reviews seem to be mixed.
Ron Burgundy released a statement on the release of the ice cream, saying that Scotchy Scotch Scotch is delicious and that he hopes Ben and Jerry’s will consider his ideas for other flavors: “Malt
Liquor Marshmallow, well liquor bourbon peanut butter, and cheap white wine sherbet.”
Timing certainly played in the release of this new ice cream. The sequel to Anchorman hits theaters next month. Ben and Jerry’s says this flavor is a “limited batch”. This is not the first time Ben and Jerry’s has done an entertainment tie-in.
