Ice Cream… Bread?

June 21, 2013

We thought we had seen it all when we discovered the bird flavored ice cream in Japan and the weird, gut wrenching flavors of distant lands, and yet, we hadn’t yet seen it all.  ice cream bread There is always something out there to be discovered, and when we stumbled across this recipe, well, we just had to share.

What is it? Well, first it’s ice cream and then… it’s bread. You may be wondering, as we were, how you can possibly bake ice cream into bread. Well, turns out it’s easier than we expected, as all the recipe calls for is your favorite full-fat ice cream, sugar, and rising flour. It’s easy to make, too: All you have to do is mix the ingredients together, pop the concoction in the oven, and viola… ice cream bread!

Okay, we know what you’re thinking, “It’s a dessert bread, right?” According to most of the testimonials, and by the way this dessert was rated very highly, most ice cream bread bakers say it doesn’t come out nearly as sweet as you would imagine. Here is what we thought after learning this, “If turning ice cream into bread makes it lose its sweetness, why bother making it?” We’re not bashing this idea; however, if we’re in the mood for something sweet, ice cream bread probably wouldn’t be our go-to dessert. Instead, we would probably just heap a pile of delicious ice cream on top of it — now that’s an idea!

In fact that is exactly what we would do. Why not take a double scoop of strawberry ice cream from Praline’s and heap it on top of a freshly baked loaf of ice cream bread? You’ve had strawberry shortcake before; it would be exactly the same, just minus the shortcake. We’d call it strawberry short bread or something. Anyway, you get the idea. If you’re interested in making ice cream bread, make sure you swing by Praline’s to add the final touch.
