Eyescream and Friends

They say that presentation is half the battle; is it true? Seems like some in Barcelona sure believe so; in fact, one ice cream parlor may be taking this idea a little too seriously. Eyescream and Friends, a self-service ice cream parlor in Barcelona, enables guests to bring ice cream to life by decorating their scoops with eyes made of sugary candy.

How would you feel about your ice cream snack staring back at you as you drive your spoon into the side of its face? It must not bother guests at Eyescream and Friends, as many are all too ready to decorate a scoop with beady eyes before indulging. Why, you ask, did this particular parlor decide to personalize ice cream? It turns out that Eyescream and Friends struggled with the fact that ice cream is “ugly.” Adding eyeballs is their way of beautifying the treat.

Now we don’t know if adding sugar eyes can really qualify as beautifying. If it were up to us, we’d add full bodied red lips and eyelashes, too. Although the parlor sought to clean up ice cream’s image, it looks to us like they’ve created ice cream monsters instead. These wide-eyed scoops look more like Cookie Monster’s cousins than ice cream beauty-queens. Regardless, we must admit that their before and after photos are strikingly convincing. We have to agree that their ice cream looks much better now that toppings are served on the side and sugary eyeballs substituted for cherries.

Here at Praline’s, each scoop looks as delicious as it tastes. With no need to dress up our menu, you won’t be seeing personified treats here. If you really want to try ice cream with eye balls, you’ll have to book a trip to Barcelona. But hey, we can’t think of a better reason to travel.
