July is an exciting month. You can finally count on consistent warm weather, Fourth of July is right around the corner, and the weather is perfect for late night swims and cold ice cream treats. Here is another reason to love the month of July: It’s National Ice Cream Month!
What does it mean? There is a time for everything, and the time for ice cream has come. In 1984, Ronald Reagan declared the month of July National Ice Cream Month, as well as the third Sunday of the month as National Ice Cream Day. Why? Since an upward of 90 percent of Americans love and celebrate ice cream, it only seemed fitting to make a national holiday. Although plenty of us enjoy ice cream on a regular basis, National Ice Cream Month gives us an extra excuse to indulge in the sweet delicacy.
How to celebrate – Many of us are quick to accept this holiday, but more than a few are confused on how to celebrate it. Here are a few ideas. First, set aside some time to visit a local ice cream parlor with friends or family. It could be a local spot or a new parlor that you’ve never been to. Try a new flavor or add new toppings, as this is a time to celebrate ice cream and enjoy all that it has to offer. You can also expand your ice cream palette by enjoying an ice cream-inspired treat like ice cream bread, ice cream sandwiches, ice cream cake, and ice cream floats.
The month of July is full of celebration — celebration of independence and celebration of ice cream. Don’t stress out over how you are going to celebrate National Ice Cream Month; instead, just sit back, relax, and enjoy a cone of your favorite ice cream treat. It’s all about the ice cream, so how could you possibly go wrong?
