You know that popular saying, “I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream?” Where did it come from? A TV commercial? From an old newspaper ad? Maybe it was
spontaneous fan talk or perhaps it was created on a school playground. If these were your guesses, you couldn’t be more wrong; it turns out that this popular and well-known saying has some pretty old roots.
Where did it come from? This popular phrase comes from a song that was recorded in 1929. The song was a tribute to the growing popularity of ice cream and featured the now popular phrase, “I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream.” Recorded by a band named Waring’s Pennsylvanians, the song was obviously a hit. Today, many do not know that the phrase they utter came from a song older than their some of their grandparents, and yet the lyrics live on.
