Ice Cream Record Holder

April 16, 2013

Ice cream wasn’t invented stateside, but that doesn’t mean we can’t claim some of its loftiest records. Even though ice cream is significantly older than ice cream records the United States, we’ve taken the tasty treat to new heights. Keep reading to find out which ice cream records are claimed by the US of A.

Consumption – At the top of the list is consumption per capita. We Americans can proudly say that our country consumes the most ice cream per person than any other. How much do we eat? Roughly 48 pints a year and those living in the northern central region of the U.S. eat the very most. Is it something to brag about? We’ll leave that up to you.

Production – Since we eat so much ice cream, it only makes to make it here at home. This is why California makes the most ice cream in the United States. Next time you open a new carton of ice cream, check the label — we bet it came from the Golden State.

Largest Scoop – Well, we already eat more ice cream than anyone else, and we produce a lot of it too; thus, we had to go to extremes for another title. Carvel helped us do just that. By piling 3,894 scoops of ice cream on top of each other, Carvel built the largest ice cream scoop ever — mission accomplished.

Ice Cream Cone – We may not have invented ice cream, but we sure did make up for it with the invention of the ice cream cone. Where and when this happened is still heavily debated; however, most agree that the cone was invented at a fair in St. Louis in 1904.

Ice Cream Sundae – Back when blue laws forbid soda to be sold on the Sabbath, one savvy ice cream store owner served an ice cream-changing concoction. Since ice cream sodas were the treat of choice, he simply decided to serve them without the soda. This resulted in hot fudge-covered ice cream. By eliminating soda from the recipe, the ice cream sundae was born.
