We don’t know what’s worse, extremely cold ice cream that gives you an instant brain freeze the moment it hits your palette or the warm milky liquid that forms at the bottom of the bowl. If you find that your ice cream snacks are always either one or the other, freezing
or melting, then we’re sure you’ve wondered what the best ice cream temperature is, as well. Well, luckily we have found the answer, and it comes from Edy’s famous ice cream taste tester himself.
John Harrison has been professionally taste testing Edy’s ice cream for more than 50 years, and with that much experience, he doesn’t have the patience for icy frozen scoops or melted cones. In order to taste test each flavor at its finest, Harrison actually measures the temperature of each sample with a special thermometer. Now before you start digging out your thermometer, you should know that you don’t have to turn your ice cream treat into a science experiment to get the same results. The following are some insights to help you enjoy ice cream at an ideal temperature.
According to Harrison, ice cream is best enjoyed between five and 10 degrees. The easiest way to make sure the temperature of your ice cream falls between these two margins is to reset your freezer. By setting your freezer at five degrees, you can enjoy your ice cream straight from the freezer; just make sure you put it away before it starts to melt all over the counter. If you’re uncomfortable resetting the temperature of your freezer, then simply wait a few minutes before scooping and serving. It only takes two to three minutes for ice cream to warm up to the desired temperatures in which scooping and eating are more enjoyable.
Sometimes, the answers to our problems are simple. When it comes to enjoying a scoop of ice cream at the right temperature, all you just need is a little patience.
